Calcium formate is an organic substance with a molecular formula of C2H2O4Ca and a molecular weight of 130.113, CAS: 544-17-2. 1. Calcium formate as a new feed additive.
Using calcium formate as a feed additive for piglets can promote the appetite of piglets and reduce the rate of diarrhea. The use of calcium formate is effective before and after weaning because the piglet’s own secretion of hydrochloric acid increases with age.
(1) Reduce the pH of the gastrointestinal tract, activate pepsinogen, and improve the digestibility of feed nutrients.
(2) Maintain a low pH value in the gastrointestinal tract, prevent the massive growth and reproduction of Escherichia coli and other pathogenic bacteria, and at the same time promote the growth of some beneficial bacteria, thereby preventing diarrhea related to bacterial infection.

2. Industrial use of calcium formate
Calcium formate is used as a quick setting agent, lubricant and early strength agent for cement. It is used in construction mortar and various concretes to speed up the hardening speed of cement and shorten the setting time, especially in winter construction, to avoid too slow setting speed at low temperature. The demoulding is fast, so that the cement can be put into use as soon as possible. Calcium formate can effectively accelerate the hydration of tricalcium silicate C3S in cement and increase the early strength of cement mortar, but it will not cause corrosion to steel bars and will not pollute the environment, so it is also widely used in oilfield drilling and cementing.
