Product Use Description
Propionic acid is mainly used as a food preservative and antifungal agent. It can also be used as an inhibitor of medium viscous substances such as beer. Used as nitrocellulose solvent and plasticizer. It is also used for the preparation of nickel plating solution, the preparation of food spices, and the manufacture of medicines, pesticides, and antifungal agents.
1. Food preservatives
The antifungal and mold effect of propionic acid is better than benzoic acid when the pH value is below 6.0, and the price is lower than sorbic acid. It is one of the ideal food preservatives, so it has a huge potential market in China as a food preservative.
2. Herbicide
In the pesticide industry, propionic acid can be used to produce propionamide, which in turn produces some herbicide varieties. According to the development plan of the pesticide industry, herbicides are the key development species of my country's pesticide industry
3. Spices
In the perfume industry, propionic acid can be used to prepare perfumes such as isoamyl propionate, linalyl propionate, geranyl propionate, ethyl propionate, benzyl propionate, etc., which can then be used as perfumes for food, cosmetics, and soap.
4. Drugs
In the pharmaceutical industry, the main derivatives of propionic acid include vitamin B6, naproxen, naomaining and so on. Propionic acid has a weak inhibitory effect on the growth of fungi both inside and outside the body. It can be used for the treatment of dermatomycosis, and is often formulated with zinc undecylenate for external use.
